Annie Get Your Gun

Yes, more violence.

We saw Annie Get Your Gun at TUTS: Theater Under the Stars, which is, as you might have guessed, an outdoor theater in Stanley Park.

This year we went through Kidsworld, which is this summer activity program where for $40/child (+1 adult) you get a pass to a variety of activities, one each day of the summer. It sounds like it would be a good deal, though I'm not entirely sold on it.

The activities calendar is not disclosed in advance because the Kidsworld organizers say that in the past people would try to sneak in, claiming they had left their pass at home. So now there's only vague information on their site and you kind of buy the passes without knowing what you're going to get.

I did price out the 4 of us going to Annie Get Your Gun & the $80 through Kidsworld seemed like a great deal. They forgot to mention that the Kidsworld pass was only good for the technical dress rehearsal.

They also forgot to mention one other thing: most of the activities are kind of lame. Maybe it's because we're homeschooling but we've been to pretty much all the places they have arranged, and we went without several hundred kids all being there with us. There were several other 'cool' activities in addition to the Theater Under the Stars, like a tour of a TV station, a harbour cruise and a visit to a wildlife rehabilitation & breeding center. Unfortunately they don't tell you that you can only pick ONE of those cool things. So now that we've been to TUTS, all that's left are the "only mildly interesting" activities.

Hmmmph.

OK, back to the show. It was good. Not as good as Oklahoma! last year, but still good. Amelia did note that since the audience was comprised of lots of kids, there was less chance of having a tall guy sit in front of you & block your view. I countered that since the audience was comprised of lots of kids there was a lot yakking, crying, pinching, hitting, whining, crinkling of plastic snack wrappers.......

Of course the best part was exposing the children to this song, just so we can all sing it for the rest of the summer.
