Roo and I are overdue for a planning meeting, wherein we will hash out the lists of priorities. I want target completion dates and budgets. I want metrics. Regular check-ins with quantifiable progress. Clear lines of authority. Lashings for insubordination. Well, OK, maybe not the lashings. Maybe just the threat of lashings.....
First we have to agree on some lists. I suspect we might be in the same boat as Dy & Zorak.
Zorak has certain things he wants to accomplish that will make him feel really good about the property. I have certain things I'd like to accomplish that will make me feel really good about the property. The two lists look nothing alike.
Roo's all "woman, can't we just put away the laundry and finally put the books in the bookshelves?" and I'm saying "why? if we're just going to move the laundry room, and if those bookshelves might end up on that other wall, and anyway we need to paint, and shouldn't we do the light first & might that not mean making some holes in the walls, and anyway, what laundry?"
Homeschooling is starting up again on Monday. We're going to try 2 weeks on/1 week off. My plan is to try it for the summer, and if we like it, we could continue that schedule in Sep. For the summer, we're paring down to the basics:
-math for both. Both actually need new math materials. I'm trying to ignore that right now & not get too caught up in the fact that I'm not quite ready for Day 1 of my new grand plan.
-LA: phonics/reading/handwriting practice for Hugo, spelling/grammar/handwriting for Amelia
-finish listening to vol. 3 of Story of the World, read by Jim Weiss
-Amelia wants to work on Geography
-Hugo wants to make more messes with his science kits.
Both will work in the garden, assist with the home renos, and learn all about

Gahhhhh - good luck making the lists align. We still haven't. We did compromise, which consisted of me pretending that I cared that we now have working exterior outlets, and he pretending that he really was going to get on the washer/dryer thing soon.
Not much else has been accomplished, but we're both quite happy with the way we're pretending things are shaping up... *manic grin*
But, paint? Did you mention paint? Ohhhh, tell me your colors!! Your plans! Your coordinating palettes!

We've been renovating for...ever. I don't know if I will ever see the light at the end of this tunnel. Hard to keep focused on homeschooling in all the mess. One thing I do, since I'm in the States, is check out the free Annenberg Channel resources at: http://www.learner.org/index.html. They show them on the cable stations here but also have free Video on Demand from the web. Some of it is teacher based, some student based, we use both. They even have some deep educational methods/testing critiques at times (seems a bit quaint as it is obvious that since No Child Left Behind there isn't much emphasis on finding out why testing doesn't work.)
My favs:
Intro to Algebra
The Mechanical Universe
For all Practical Purposes: 80's but good
The Western Tradition: Eugen Weber
and many more! Great for a homeschooling mom to get inspired.
Come up for air! We miss hearing from you!
