Keys!

Officially we weren't supposed to have them until moving day on Friday but the vendors are long gone, and the lawyers did their magic, and we got the keys on Wednesday at 5:30.

And spent 3 hours there wandering around.

I'm sure most people go through this but I think it's especially true in this bizarre Vancouver market where you buy houses overnight - there were lots of things we would talk about and couldn't remember exactly how it was. So we walked around saying things like "See, I told you there was a door there" and "Huh? I don't remember that".

I'm a little overwhelmed at the amount of work. It's not the absolutely, must be done, kind of work (there were several houses that you NEEDED to gut the kitchen and bath before it was habitable). This, our inspector said, is a totally livable house - you could live 5 years without changing anything.

I couldn't.

There are many things that will be changed but we need to live there a bit and separate out the not functional and the truly ugly, from the merely annoying.

It's all good, and getting an extra day means that we can give it a great big cleaning before moving on Friday. Roo took today off as we had pretty strong assurances that the keys would be early, so we'll separate and conquer our domains. I'm packing and cleaning here while he cleans there.

24 hours to go until the moving truck arrives. Four months ago, in the weeks before the move I had recurrent dreams that the moving guys arrived and we had hardly anything packed, and were standing in the living room calmly drinking our morning tea and coffee and saying things like 'oh, it won't take long to pack this. We'll do it as they load the furniture'..... This time, I have no moving anxiety at all, which is weird because I think we're way less prepared.

Congrats on the keys!

"See, I told you there was a door there" and "Huh? I don't remember that".

I laughed on reading that; so funny how a new house can show us a few surprises.

I guess I am next on the list to find a forever home...

Congratulations! It sounds like fun- getting a new house and fixing it up to your own tastes. Good luck and enjoy!

Congrats!

One of the first things my hubby said when we spent our first night in our new house: "Hey! I found a coat closet!"

We all cheered.

I'm laughing about all the new things you are going to do in the new place (get skinnier! write more!) Hee. Sounds like me a few months ago. Keep on dreaming. It's good for us.

just cheering for you and your new home!
We always take pics of the empty house before we move in...just to remind us how big it really was before we moved in all our STUFF!

Wonderful news! Best of luck on your move and remember not to snap at one another. If you feel like snapping, take a big breath and count to whatever number you need to in order not to snap. Snapping is not good and should be avoided at all costs so that your move will be happy and for the most part, stress free.

Congratulations!
