Last night Roo & I went out for a little date. It's something we've been doing for over a year now. Each month, we go out for about 2-3 hours, for a small meal and a chance to talk. Attachment parenting is wonderful but it can take its toll on a marriage, especially when you have children who seem to need less sleep than the adults. We also have an additional complication in that Roo is a night-owl while I fade fast in the evenings. So we need to organize our time together.
Now, if you're 24 days away from moving into a 40 year old house, which is in good shape but has had no major improvements in a couple decades, where do you go for your date? Ikea! A good meal, and then wander around looking at kitchen cabinets, countertops and couches. (Home Depot was in the running but we were just there a couple weeks ago & they don't have yummy food.)
Despite our lengthy gazing at cabinets & countertops, the kitchen is not at the top of the reno list. First, we'll be painting the inside of the house, and then we need move a laundry room. The laundry room move is a bit tricky as it involves installing a pump but it has to be done fast as the current laundry location is pathetic.
Then there's the issue of the front yard which has a layout problem which bugs both of us and so we're keen to fix it soon. That would probably be done best in the early winter, when things are dormant.
The house is currently painted banana yellow and that has to go. Probably during the first steady clear weather of the summer. Once we agree on the color.
The upstairs bathrooms are also slated for a reno but they need the kind of reno which involves pulling the walls out and realigning rooms so we'll need to really think it through (& figure out which are the load bearing walls!)
We're getting so excited!
I updated the Ballycumber again & you can see which way my thoughts are heading! The domestic goddess will renovate, bake and cook up a storm, and write!

I am so glad you got the house. And I totally understand the date at Ikea! I love that place!
Planning renovations and redecorating is fun and so exciting. Good luck!
