History - ideas?

Amelia is interested in historical clothing. Does anyone recommend a specific book? She wants something thick, with lots of illustrations - but not childish illustrations! Not childish, do you hear? Nothing can be childish!... (that little tantrum is being replayed here daily).

Also historical fiction which is not childish (!!!), but not so sophisticated that Hornblower won'’t let her read it. Her favourite books right now are the three Boston Jane books by Jennifer Holm & the Lady Grace Mysteries series. She wants more like that: – resourceful, adventurous girls, with some mystery and romance mixed in.

I was thinking of picking up some Rosemary Sutcliffe books for her but aren't those mostly about boys?

**edited later.
Well, so much for posting from e-mail. All my apostrophes disappeared. Sheesh. But I think I'll keep on trying because it sure is fast to post from e-mail.

Both are Dover reprints. Dover also has a variety of smaller books from separate eras, regions, etc.

Will you be able to find them at your library?

I'll see if I can tackle the historical fiction tomorrow since I took up so much space now with the links : )

ooooohhh. I haven't been here in awhile (I'm so glad you stopped by my place today!) and it looks so pretty! Love the template, love the origami envelopes, love the braided hair with daisies. Thanks for the images!

For historical fiction, you may want to try Crispin by Avi. We all really enjoyed that one (my girls are 13 and 9).

Becky - oooh! What People Wore is at our library. Kohler's book I'll have to go a bit further for but it sounds fab. Big thanks!

Kunoichi - thanks for that recommendation. A just finished the Secret School by Avi; we'll try Crispin.

Sparrow - nice of you to visit! Thanks for the compliments. :-)
