Rex is one of those paranormal werewolf type characters.
Only in his case, he’s a weretimer. What he really looks like is this:
But in our realm, he can only manifest himself in this body.

It’s the result of a secret government experiment with alien werewolf Marines. It all went very awry when the program was infiltrated by a terrorist cell of deranged watch-makers.
Very secret stuff. And the results are tragic because Rex can never inhabit his own body in our dimension. However, he can exist in this small plastic body with 3 red buttons and we’re making the best of it.

Rex is my personal writing coach. He’s tough but funny and encouraging. He knows when to push and when to reward. His buttons reset with one click, and when you need just another 30 minutes for something, he’ll oblige. He gives a warning beep when there’s 10 minutes to go and another when only 5 minutes remain.

He’s very versatile. He has a magnetic back, and a little leg (gosh, I hope that’s a leg) so he can stand. He can also clip onto things and go with me everywhere. And he can function as a clock.

He is, however, very anal about The Plan. He refers to it constantly and reminds me (in a firm but supportive way) when I’m deviating from The Plan.
“Come on gorgeous! Just a few more pages. You can do it. Come on baby!”

I like him. I think. But sometimes he’s a bit annoying. Like when according to The Plan I should be showered and dried and dressed in 15 minutes. When I went over by a few minutes he howled on the bathroom counter in a very unfriendly manner.

And when I tried to explain that the length of time I had estimated for snuggling children to bed in the evenings was just an ESTIMATE, he got downright sulky.
I think we’ll work it out. And if not, I know how to take his battery out.

Oh My.
Rex is really something!
Does he at least bribe you with chocolate on occasion?
Wowee zowee...Rex is a great timer for a romance novelist. What a hunk.
Listen to the man. Anyone with abs and a smirky little smile like that has some wisdom to offer (-:
Happy writing,

Indeed, Rex is a very...uh, encouraging. Very, very much so. ;)
I think I need a Rex. I write sci-fi/fantasy and can soooo totally relate. Good luck with the Plan and appointments!
