LaMai, don't pack your bag yet

So we had the inspection today and we have an issue.

If you look at an aerial photo of the Lower Mainland, you'll see that we have creeks and ravines aplenty. The property we're looking at is on a slope (though not a huge one) and has a creek. All very lovely.

But. There are cracks in the foundation in the SE corner, which, you guessed it, is the corner over the slope and creek. So, are the cracks indicating that the house is sliding down the hill? Is it just a quarter of the house that wants to leave? Or are the cracks cosmetic (because cracked foundations are a dime a dozen here) and it's just incidental that this house is on a sloped lot?

Questions, questions, questions. At this point we're looking at getting a couple more opinions from structural and geotechnical engineers. Maybe it will all work out. Or maybe we'll have to walk away.

We're not looking at anything near this because the slope is much, much, smaller. But still, when you have slope, you want slope stability.

Much thinking, much mulling, much gnawing on knuckles.
