If there is an ice age coming, and Chocolate Bear happens to be in Hawaii at the time, he'll have the perfect thing to wear. It's like a lei made into a hat. Hugo is thrilled. (Rachel is happy because she's near a warm boy and is covered by a down quilt.)
I am apparently doomed to be knitting bizarre projects in weird yarns for my kids' toys. I keep trying to work on my own stuff; I dream of nice, soft natural fibres in beautiful, gentle hues. The kids have other ideas.
Chocolate Bear is happy and I think Hugo picked very smashing colors for a bear hat. The fit is hard to get right because Chocolate has rather large ears but still, I think it's ok. (the real hats at the store which I refuse to name have slits for the bear's ears. Yeah, right.)
But consider this: this hat comes from a pattern for humans. Yes, someone thought this would be a smashing look. Even if you don't have ears stuck high on your head, which distort the shape of this garment, I beg you, please don't make this for yourself.
Not only is it really quite ugly but it's also completely not functional, unless you're just wanting to generate static electricity on your head.

More butterflies have hatched. We have 7 able-bodies, and 3 not quite properly made ones. The weather has turned rainy and cold so I think we'll be keeping them for a bit.

I thought the static-electricity-hair look was chic at the moment? Your static-hat could be sold in hair boutiques to 'preserve the look' when one goes out. [g]
Love the snap of Chocolate, and the 'kids.'
Great hat! The model would have looked a lot snappier if she had been wearing bright orange like Chocolate Bear. Nice choice, Hugo.
I'm with you on malls and the Store That Must Not Be Named. Blech.
My shopping philosophy: Get in, get out, see you next year. With three girls, hand-me-downs are a wonderful thing.
Hi HMS! A few months ago I started crocheting an afghan, but my youngest insisted that I make her one. So now hers is done and I am too burnt out to finish mine. I only have about 10 rows to go, I just need to come up with the motivation to finish it!
Randi - I’m glad I’m not the only one. Maybe when the weather cools a bit you’ll get the impetus to finish. 10 rows – you’re so close!
L - thanks for dropping in. I've been seriously thinking about doing all the shopping online to avoid the whole mall thing.
Valerie - now that you mention it...I kind of have hair like that now. Maybe instead of gooping all the goo on it I should just wear the hat at breakfast.
LOL! I'm doomed to the same thing, but it's so much fun. I need to get back to finishing a huge purple fuzzy scarf for James. Then I can start on the hairy-looking orange one for John. LOL. So much fun.
