It was good. The weather was not too cooperative but we're Vancouverites; we know to dress in layers, and to pack both sunscreen and rain umbrellas. It was one of those days when the weather changed every 15 minutes or so.
We saw the Taiwanese National Acrobats and they put on a good show. I tried to get pictures but my camera (which I STILL haven't received my rebate for; I'm seriously annoyed at the number of rebate follow-ups I've sent & still NO CHEQUE!!!) likes to take photos about 1 second after you press the button. It also doesn't like taking pictures of moving things. So my photos are mostly of off-center, red & gold smudges. You'll just have to trust me that the show was good. Especially at the "discounted, buy way-ahead, OK you can get the school price even though you're not a school because you do that weird homeschool thing" price. At the regular price of $18 a ticket - ummmm, I'm not so sure. But then, I'm kind of cheap.
One of the perks of going to the Children's Festival is that you get free admission to the lobby of the HR MacMillan Space Center (where they have lots of way cool stuff to touch. I touched moon rock today!), and the Vancouver Museum. A large chunk of the Museum is undergoing renos and is closed, which was a bummer. But on the plus side, they had the mummy out. Usually the mummy is enclosed in an opaque case with only small portholes to peek at him through. Now, he is temporarily out in a glass case and we finally got a really good look at him. We went to the Discover Egypt exhibit in Victoria last fall & were expecting to see him there, as we heard he was there for an extended sleepover; but he wasn't there after all. Apparently he had only stayed for a short time in the summer, and we missed him. Well, we finally got a nice close look at the mummy, including his slightly protruding teeth, his hair, and his eyelashes. I kid you not - you can see his eyelashes. The mummy is of a 10 year old boy with a fractured skull and broken bones; it's kind of sad.
We ate Whales' Tails. Yes, we eat that kind of stuff here. We're Canadian, don't you know. (Oh OK! They're not real whales' tails.) Then we ate cotton candy. And then we all decided we were very tired and came home. The kids dozed on the drive home. I think I dozed on the drive home. There are whole chunks of the drive which I don't recall all that well.
