Had a lovely time on Friday. Saw Al Simmons. He's hilarious. We have listened to his albums many times and his live performance is well worth catching. He passed his Juno award around the audience so we could all see it. He said "most people put their Juno on their mantlepiece so it can collect dust; I bring it to my shows and collect fingerprints!"
CAT
Rachel is .... well, I don't know if she's better or not. She's kind of eating a bit better now. But she's also been pawing at her mouth. She had one medicine which was a chew tab and there was no way she would have anything to do with it. At first, she had the brilliant idea of sticking her paw in her bowl, licking off the good parts, and then flicking the rest off. Lovely. Cat food sprayed all over the kitchen. Then she boycotted anything which smelled remotely of the medicine. The pills and liquid are still being forced down her throat morning and night. She had a check up with the vet on Friday night and everything looks fine in her mouth but she's lost more weight so she obviously isn't eating enough.
My prime challenge now is to keep feeding her as much as possible. This is the height of irony as she has always been, shall we say, a chubby cat. One of the reasons I stopped seeing my previous vet was that the woman was totally guilting me out about Rachel's weight. I was measuring out her food using calibrated scoops, calculating caloric requirments, instituting an exercise regiment, and still the cat was plump and slowly gaining. And the vet was making me feel like a totally awful cat owner.
Now, I'm chasing the cat around with special, concentrated calorie, weight-gain formula food and coaxing her to eat it.
The weird walking, falling over thing has not been happening anymore and so we're hoping whatever it was has passed.
TRIUMPH
My dd has finished Anne of Green Gables all on her own.
In 4 days. In the regular sized paperback book format. Unabridged.
She's so thrilled. Way back when she was struggling to read Henry and Mudge type books, she said that books like Anne were the kinds she wanted to be able to read. That was a real book. Not like these baby books which she was slogging her way through. And now she's done it & has moved on to Anne of Avonlea.

Just wanted to say great job to a girl after my own heart. I am a Mom of 5 and my oldest dd and I are both reading the Anne series right now. I am almost done with the last book, my daughter is finishing book 5.
You keep on visiting Anne and let me know when you have finished them all. It is nice to meet someone else who is of "the race that knows Joseph." (This will make sense when you get through book 5 Anne's House of Dreams.)
