I had great plans for this blog post. In fact, it's been brewing in the back of my head for some weeks now. It was going to be the perfect set up for the big reveal of what has been keeping me so busy & away from blogging.
It was going to start with asking you if you know the story about the Trevi Fountain and how if you toss a coin in, you're sure to go back. Then there was going to be a picture of the fountain, with a twenty years younger version of me in front of it & tada - the announcement that we're going back to Europe for a little trip.
Squeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllll!
Alas. The picture of me in front of the fountain? Only exists in my imagination.
Roo did dig out the old album and there's a picture of HIM sitting on the edge of the fountain, but no photo of me*. Pout. Those were the days of film cameras, expensive processing, and rationing out film to make it last 6 weeks in Europe. Apparently me dropping coins into the fountain didn't merit a photo.
But look! Trevi Fountain! (courtesy of the internetz)
I've been there!
And we're going back! (Well two of us are 'going back', and two of us are 'going'. Yup, we're travelling with the teens!)
I thought it was exactly 20 years ago but I was wrong about that too. It was 19. Married in 91, bought condo in 92, Europe in 93, baby in 94. Those were busy years!
I distinctly remember coming home from that trip in 93 and already planning our next trip to Europe, but it took 19 years to finally do it. Roo is trying to speed up the process for next time by actually planning the next, next trip before we've even left for this one :)
So that's what's been keeping me busy. The plus side of traveling now is that you can book everything online, you can streetview your hotel, you can read all the reviews on TripAdvisor & you can prearrange everything. The minus side of traveling now is that you can book everything online, streetview your hotel, read way too many reviews & try to micromanage every last detail to the last second..... :-)
*There's a chance that Roo will allow me to post that pic of him since he's almost unrecognizable so perhaps it doesn't quite violate the 'I don't want to be in your lefty ranty dog obsessed blog in case someone from work sees me & it kills my career' rule but I doubt it. Just to give you a hint though: the hair. AWESOME. Think Bruno Mars but in a different color & that's pretty much it.
Also, our pants were really high waisted then. Whoa.
