Thank you Gilles

Yes, I'm thanking a separatist for doing well enough in Quebec to prevent a Harper majority. //small head bang//

Lowest voter turnout ever and another Conservative minority. Wow, I'm glad we did that! So happy we spent $300 million to show that, no, we don't actually really like any of you and we didn't really want to be asked.

And Harper, don't give me any of that poopoo about dysfunctional government. You were the ones who have been hampering parliament.

Did you think we'd forget?

a secret Tory handbook on obstructing and manipulating Commons committees was leaked to the press.

...

The government was so embarrassed and annoyed by the leak, that, according to a source, it ordered all committee chairs to return their copies of the handbook, apparently in a bid to determine who broke confidence.

The handbook, obtained by National Post columnist Don Martin, reportedly advises chairs on how to promote the government's agenda, select witnesses friendly to the Conservative party and coach them to give favourable testimony. It also reportedly instructs them on how to filibuster and otherwise disrupt committee proceedings and, if all else fails, how to shut committees down entirely.

Now everyone, stop bickering and get back to work.

Mr. Layton - I'll be watching you and I'll be pestering my wonderful NDP MP regularly. Your job is to keep social programs, the environment, women's reproductive rights, our food, and small L liberal ideologies safe and sound. If you could also keep references to religion and the word god from popping out of Harper's mouth, everyone around me would be very grateful as they're tired of watching my head explode; I realize, however, that on that issue, there's not much you can do. On the rest - do your stuff.

And lastly, the word of the day, courtesy of Rex Murphy (who bears an uncanny resemblance to Professor Calculus) during CBC's election coverage is

elegiac

of, relating to, or comprising elegy or an elegy ; especially : expressing sorrow often for something now past

Yes, indeed.
