the butterflies have flown

We had such a good experience with the butterflies this time around. Pretty well all of them hatched out so we had more than 30 fluttering around a 20 gal glass tank. We put the tank near a sunny window, so it was half in sun & half in shade, and it was neat to watch them bask in the sunshine.

The weather cooperated and just at the right time we had a forecast of several nice dry days ahead, so the butterflies were released. And promptly flew to the flower basket hanging by the window.
They stuck around that afternoon, but then we didn't see them again.

Hugo & Amelia took turns lifting them out of the tank. Even with the screen lid off, they weren't exactly flying out of there, but once on a finger, it seemed that they felt the wind on their wings and figured out that it was time to go do their thing (which apparently is to flutter around looking pretty and mate asap)

Hurray :)

You just about have me convinced to buy 30 next year instead of five. But we MUST get a big tank. At least I have almost a year to find one!

LOL, I never even considered doing just 5. It is very neat to have this many fluttering around. Start looking for that tank Becky, it's well worth it.
