Sunset from Burnaby Mountain

If you want to observe the sunset from Burnaby Mountain, make sure you go about 20 minutes ahead of the expected sunset. The North Shore mountains block the sun & make it 'set' ahead of the schedule.

It's well worth the drive to see a beautiful view of Burrard Inlet, Indian Arm and of course, the city. Smog is a bonus.

Burnaby has been on an eco-sculpture kick. They're putting them all over the place. Here, on top of Burnaby Mountain, we have some cranes. These are made of plants, cunningly attached to metal frames and assiduously watered. Different plants are used to create texture and color variations in the sculpture.

You can bring a blanket & picnic on the grassy slopes of the mountain or, if you're feeling more posh, try out the restaurant, aptly named Horizons. They usually offer a prix fixe meal in the summer. Last one I saw was a choice of 2 salads, 3 entrees, 2 desserts, for $30 CAD/person. Drinks & gratuities extra.
