Tough times. On the one hand, we're finally seeing some rational and vocal opposition expressed at the highest levels in US politics. Hawkish Democrat John Murtha stuns with a call for withdrawal. Bill Clinton says the war was a mistake. John Edwards says his vote for the war was a mistake.
And yet, having stirred this hornets' nest up, the US can't just march out and leave them to sort it out themselves. The UBC alumni magazine published this month "Why Americans Supported George Bush and What Happens if they Stop" by Paul Quirk.
We need some balance. Some nuanced, subtle approaches. There are thousands of gradations between stay and go and we need to explore a withdrawal and transition process that at least has some chance of introducing stability in the region.
Politics - endlessly fascinating, relevant and real.
I might be biased since my degree is in Political Science.
But it's true.
