What is with these people? And why do they still have microphones?
Cast your mind back to Pat Robertson, religious leader, past candidate for Republican party leadership calling for the assassination of a democratically elected leader (yes, I know the democratically elected leader is a fellow of questionable ethics and is turning into a tyrant; still.)
Now we have Bill Bennett, author of the Book of Virtues, Mr. "what's wrong with this country is that nobody has any morals!!!! (well, I do have a small gambling problem....but I'm dealing with it!)" and past education secretary, saying that the crime rate would be reduced if all black mothers aborted their babies.
Now, much backtracking and explaining is occurring. He's trying really hard to clarify that he didn't mean the abortion part.
Bill, that's not the part that concerns me.
The part that concerns me is that you're equating crime with being black.
Monica has an interesting post about this (titled "Prominent Republican’s Final Solution: Abort every black baby in this country to reduce crime"), including a quote from Salon which is very thought-provoking.
"Every black mother must take note of the fact that this view is still extant; their children are considered by some to be a drag on the bright, boundless promise of America."
