Lazy Sundays

Vancouver had a beautiful weekend, with sunshine and gentle breezes.

On Sunday, Amelia was making cheese scones, I was fighting with the paper dragon and Roo was mudding drywall. The deck and the sunshine beckoned and I told the kids to come sit out there & get some Vitamin D.

Hugo brought out a book, dragged out a deck chair from the garage and made himself comfy.

Amelia, after fussing with timers and worrying whether she'd hear the oven beep, joined us. I lay down on the deck. I was only going to lie down for a moment, just do a bit of a yoga stretch, feel the sun on my back.

On one of Amelia's many check-in's on her scones, I got her to grab me a pillow on the way back.

Hugo abandoned the chair in favour of lying on the deck as well, Darwin was running around trying to catch mason bees, Bear was basking in the sun, Daisy tried to convince me to share the pillow with her.

My neighbours mercifully turned off all their frigging power tools and built in vacuums, the annoying guy behind us didn't think to turn on his stereo, and I could hear the creek babbling, the newly opened leaves rustling, the birds chirping, and Darwin's feet running back and forth.

I had my navy t-shirt over my face to block out the sun. It was so peaceful.

Next thing I know, I hear a crash of baking pans from the kitchen. Aha, I think. Amelia is taking scones out. I stretch my warm body, yawn a little, and consider that I'm now alone & that it seems I fell asleep.

I languidly make my way into the kitchen where BEAR, pathetic, arthtritic, I can't jump; pick me up and lift all 80 lbs of me into the car please lady, picky eater, and very sick with some internal problems - THAT Bear, is on the floor surrounded with cooling racks & cheese scones which he is scarfing down as fast as he can. I may be sick but I can still counter surf! he cheerfully said while chomping on scones. The other dogs are circling him amazed at this but too scared to approach.

Luckily he is not very fast and he only gobbled up two before I scooped him out of there & rescued the rest of the scones.

I was naughty?

I would never be naughty. Please make the scary camera go away. I'm so sad when you point it at me.

I didn't know we could counter surf when mom is home! Hurrah! Now I know!

So that was my lazy afternoon.

Roo told me later "Yeah, I needed a break too so I washed the car." Which is to me one of those sentences that just does not scan. When you want a break, you lie down on the deck in the sunshine and fall asleep. You do not stop drywalling and hauling construction crap around and cleaning out the garage, and then go to wash the car as a break. Roo just doesn't know how to be truly lazy.

What you call counter surfing, Bear calls helping himself.

'Sides, Bear is way too cute to ever be naughty.

I was so happy to get home from Jordan and see not only a photo of Bear but to hear that he has been a normal dog taking advantage of a food opportunity! I hope he is doing better and that his medical problems can be managed....with cheese scones maybe :)

Furthermore.... on bear's behalf, if I were there and there was some nice warm cheese scones, just out of the oven, tempting me, I would have counter surfed - er, I mean helped myself.

Now that gets a smile on my face . . .three adorable dog pics, thinking about lying on the deck w the sun on my face, silly dog stories, and of course, the silly husband story too.
