Rachel is a sick cat.
Rachel has always been an indoor cat, and since she has not been vaccinated for years (due to her ill health) now she really cannot go anymore for her onleash walks in the yard. We live in the middle of a wildlife highway, with numerous cats, raccoons, skunks visiting our yard, and potentially spreading their viral, bacterial and parasitic loads.
But Rachel LOVES outside and loves grass.
So we have rigged up the deck so she can go there and waltz around as much as she likes, listening to birds and tanning herself in the sun. And I planted a pot of grass for her.
She likes to eat it a bit, but mostly she just likes to lie on it.

We've tried to grow grass indoors but it either dies or gets eaten. when one of our 5 cats was a kitten she used to play in a drawer with sand in it on the balcony with my daughter - always supervised so the kitten wouldn't jump since it was 3 stories up. but now that we have a house with a yard the cats have been trying to escape any chance they get. we've talked about making a screened in or glassed in area under where we will be building a deck - for the cats to have an outdoor space - but adding some plants like grass will make it even better!
