Belcarra Park

Belcarra Park, west of Ioco, is a pleasant drive from Vancouver. It features several small beaches with tide pools where at low tide you can find starfish, crabs & numerous shellfish. The dock is popular with crab fishers and always good for people (& crab!) watching. There are large picnic grounds, and a variety of trails of differing lengths and difficulties.

When we were there, there was a prominent sign about bears being sighted in the area so we didn't venture far off into the forests but we did go deep enough to see the lizard tree:

During summertime heatwaves, the park can get full and the park gates will be closed. In that event, signs are posted on the roads leading to the park so you can turn around & go home.....

What a beautiful place (and I Love the lizard tree!). My kids would get a kick out of wading around tidal pools & seeing starfish. Is the water very cold?

The water is cold. I do swim in it (though not that day!) during heat waves & I've been dumped in it when sailing. I got a wet suit the last summer I was sailing a lot because it was just too much for me. The ocean currents in the waters off Vancouver bring us water from Alaska. There are odd little bays up the coast where things warm up but generally speaking our beaches are not for the faint of heart. The Atlantic at the same latitudue is much warmer because of the gulf stream.

Our coastal lakes, with very few exceptions, are also cold as they're usually glacier fed.

But in the interior of BC are some of the warmest lakes of Canada :-)

Ah. I am the poster girl for the faint of heart, so I guess I would Not be swimming. It is lovely, anyway.
