are we sure about human food?

Just quickly -

Del Monte is recalling some of their pet food products because of the tainted wheat gluten.

Del Monte confirmed the wheat gluten was a food grade additive - meaning it could well be in the human food chain.

Ref. Pet Connection

For folks in the US, your FDA is at least doing a semblance of something. Doesn't sound like it's doing much, and at least one of your Senators is calling for an overhaul of the system but at least it's there. In Canada, we're getting nothing. Nobody seems to be looking at this at all. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency apparently deals with human food, and livestock feed but not with pet food. There's absolutely nothing on their website about the current pet food recall. We're on our own up here in the North.

This is one of the biggest problems with having the food supply -- for pets, livestock, or humans -- concentrated in the hands of a monopoly.

The Food Inspection Agency, like the USDA and also the FDA, tend not to work well because while they should be ensuring a safe food supply, instead they spend most of their time telling consumers that the food supply is safe, in order to protect the interests of the large multinationals -- food producers like ADM and pharmaceutical companies.

And what's still in livestock feed is enough to curl your hair...

Not a very cheery comment, I'm afraid lol.

Becky, I was at the CFIA site a while back and looking at some of the regs. I find it interesting that not until this summer is there going to be an expansion of the BSE risky material from going into feed & pet food. Oh lovely.
So what's in there NOW?
