Good bye Caramel

Caramel fought off the infection bravely and we thought he'd turned the corner. Unfortunately, he was also dealing with a large tumour, and that proved to be too much for his little body. He slipped away overnight, snuggled in his little cozy nest.

Caramel was the sweetest little hammie with a spirited interest in home decor. Every few nights, he would spend the entire night shifting his entire nest from one corner of his cage to the other. He would snuffle around, carrying all his bedding bit by bit, kicking up a storm of activity. He lived in 2 rectangular cages, joined by a small tunnell, so he had 8 corners to choose from and he enjoyed moving!

He was very clean and always designated one corner as his potty. You could see him stagger up from his nap, walk to his potty, do his business, and stagger back to his nest - all without opening his eyes.

He was social, and friendly and liked being stroked just behind the ears.

His favourite things were sunflower seeds and broccoli.

I adopted him from the shelter and he lived with us for two and half years, being a perfect little hammie .

Caramel would have liked you to know that there are many sweet little furries at shelters and animal rescues across our continent. Please, don't get a pet if you are not willing to look after it for the duration of its life. And if you do have some room in your home and heart, consider adopting an animal from a reputable organization dedicated to rehoming unwanted pets. There are many gems out there.

I am so sorry - losing a furry companion is so difficult. It is nice to know that Caramel had 2 and a half lovely years with you and your family, such caring owners, and that he went peacefully in his sleep. Glad to see you back and looking forward to hearing your tales about the ups and downs of learning at home.
Warmly,
Heather
