Spring

Saw a great blue heron - my favourite bird. This is one is, I think, an immature - last year's hatchling.

Walked down to the river. (that's the north arm of the Fraser River)

Hugo explored the shore.....

Amelia explored the coastal forest and found.....

salmonberries in bloom.

Went to play pooh sticks but the water was too sluggish.

Checked out the beaver dam. No sign of the beaver.

Looked for tadpoles but we think it's too early. We did see the 3 garter snakes sunning themselves on the path and discovered that we are all too chicken to pick them up, even though we have touched them when someone else has picked them up.

We heard tons of birds and Amelia had a long "fee-bee" conversation with a chickadee. It really is amazing to hear a bird respond to your call.

And then we had a lazy mom's picnic back in the car - a box of Peek Frean cookies, water, and a Diet Pepsi with Lime (for mom!).
