Sick kitty

My cat Rachel has been ill on and off for the last 6 months. Through some great detective work by my vet, we discovered she has chronic pancreatitis. She had a flare up in the fall, but with treatment and a change in diet, she's been back to herself for quite a while.

She has needed her teeth cleaned for a long time now & we finally judged her well enough to undertake the procedure (which involves being put under general anasthesia). She had it done yesterday and came through wonderfully; the vet found a very rotten tooth which he extracted. She has been finicky with her food lately and pawing at her mouth and it obviously had been giving her trouble so it's good that we finally got this done.

She was recovering well last night, ate and drank a bit; she seemed fine this morning. Then, this afternoon, she started staggering and falling and twitching and all in all acting like a very sick kitty. I had to take her in and we're not sure what's going on yet, but she'll need to stay overnight at the critical care clinic for observation.

So we're all worried about her. She's a wonderful, gentle cat and has been such a source of joy for all of us. She's very mellow and friendly, always happy to sit on your lap and cuddle. She's great with the kids. We got her as a young adult cat when H was a year old and so he's really grown up with her.
