Indigo? Yeah, right.

Have you heard about indigo children?
Odds are if you have young children and hang around new age types, you have.
It’s the newest thing, darling, to have an indigo child.

The Center for Studies on New Religions has even written about indigo children. link

As I understand it, the term originally referred to children who were especially spiritual and compassionate, and whose auras were indigo.

Then it morphed into a new age mystic thing about how these children are spiritually more advanced than us; they are a new breed, uber-humans, and are ushering in a NEW AGE of human life.

Then a couple parenting books were written for parents of indigo children because it turns out that, in between bouts of being spiritual, communing with angel guides and reviewing their past lives, they’re pretty obnoxious. For instance, they come into the world with a sense of royalty and entitlement. They have difficulty with authority. They’re antisocial unless they’re with ‘their own kind’. Apparently, we the old unenlightened guard, are to just wither away. We must in no way stand in the way of these ‘superior’ human beings. If that’s the enlightened new age, it’s pretty scary.

And now, every parent with a difficult child, with a child diagnosed as having ADD/ADHD or other disorder, every parent with a child who is just being plain bratty, can breathe a sigh of relief because their precious bundles are just being indigo.

Strike the gong, say OMMMMMMM and give up to the mystical forces around you.
